Maria Smelaya was subjected to criminal prosecution

Alina Alekseytseva, the second wife of the ex-husband of Krasnodar resident Maria Smelaya, who is seeking the return of her child taken to Chechnya, filed a complaint against her about the theft of her watch. The investigation has begun a criminal case.

As "Kavkazsky Uzel" reported, on April 25, the Prikubansky District Court of Krasnodar took interim measures on the claim of Maria Smelaya and ordered the immediate return of her child, who is presumably in Chechnya. Smelaya had previously visited the address in Chechnya where her son is registered, but the house turned out to be empty. Smelaya's son, whom the court ordered to return to his mother, is, according to her, not with his father, but with an outside woman. Maria reported threats from strangers on behalf of her ex-husband.

In May 2024, 33-year-old Maria Smelaya was placed in a shelter for women who had suffered from domestic violence. She turned to human rights activists with a request to protect her from her husband. The violence, according to her, began shortly after their trip to her husband's relatives in Grozny and their marriage. Maria's story is one of many in the North Caucasus, where mothers have been trying for years to at least see their children, according to the "Caucasian Knot" report "Maria Smelaya is one of the mothers who were separated from their children in the Caucasus".

Maria Smelaya has become a defendant in a criminal case, the Caucasus Without a Mother project reported today. As follows from the video published on the project's Telegram channel, a statement about the theft of a watch worth 30 thousand rubles was filed by Alina Alekseytseva, the second wife of her ex-husband.

The video shows the decision to initiate a criminal case. It states that Alekseytseva's statement was received on May 12.

The senior investigator of the police department of the Prikubansky district of the police in Krasnodar, Pismennaya, based on the materials of the pre-investigation check on June 6, made a decision to initiate a criminal case against Maria Smelaya under the article on theft (part 2 of article 158 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, provides for up to 5 years of imprisonment).

The "Caucasian Knot" does not publish the video due to the foul language it contains.

We recall that Alina Alekseytseva also previously complained to human rights activists that a native of Chechnya Sh. beats her and their children.
