Giorgi Tsertsvadze asks for political asylum in Ukraine
The Georgian commando Giorgi Tsertsvadze, who was detained in Kiev at the request of Russia, and then released under the decision of the Ukrainian Prosecutor's Office, has appealed to the Ukrainian authorities for political asylum for himself and his family.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Giorgi Tsertsvadze, a former fighter of Special Forces of the Georgian MIA was detained in the Kiev Airport on January 15. Russia declared him wanted on charges of murder and attempted murder in 2003 inSochi. Tsertsvadze was placed into custody for 40 days, but his defence appealed against the arrest. On January 26, by the decision of the Ukrainian Prosecutor's Office, Tsertsvadze was released from the SIZO (pre-trial prison).
Today, Mr Tsertsvadze himself reported about his appeal for political asylum in Ukraine on air of the Georgian TV Company "Rustavi-2".
"The appeal was lodged by my advocate; then, I was kept in SIZO and wrote an application. The application is still considered since January 25," the "Sputnik-Georgia" quotes Giorgi Tsertsvadze as saying.
