Gannushkina refuses to campaign in Chechnya

In her interview to the "Caucasian Knot", Svetlana Gannushkina, the Chair of the "Civil Assistance" Committee, explained her refusal to campaign in Chechnya for her election to the Russian State Duma by the danger for her supporters. Ms Gannushkina is No. 1 in the list of candidates from the "Yabloko" Party in Chechnya.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that voting at the election to the State Duma is scheduled for September 18, 2016, – the united voting day. On July 4, it became known that Svetlana Gannushkina is on the top of the Chechen regional group of candidates of the "Yabloko" Party.

According to Svetlana Gannushkina, the upcoming elections are "the last hope to put the country on the evolutionary track of development."

She added that she would not campaign in Chechnya, in order not to jeopardize its citizens who support her. However, as she stated, she is not afraid to come to the region.

"I understand that there are proud and decent people who will come to listen to me, but what will happen to them later... I don't know that, and I can't put them at risk," Ms Gannushkina explained to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
