Parliament of Georgia adopts law on amnesty of elderly prisoners
On June 24, the Parliament of Georgia adopted the draft law stipulating exemption from criminal liability for 116 elderly prisoners, including those jailed for serious crimes.
The draft law "On Amnesty" proposed by the parliamentary faction "National Forum" was unanimously adopted in the final reading. The voting involved 77 MPs.
The draft law offers to release from prisons male prisoners from 70 years old and above and female prisoners from 65 years old and above, accused of less serious, as well as some serious criminal crimes, committed before December 31, 2015, the "Interfax" reports today.
In particular, the law makes it possible to remove the criminal liability for involuntary manslaughter. Meanwhile, a mandatory requirement for amnesty of each prisoner is the consent of the victim's successor.
