KBR residents complain about torture, HRC members report

Residents of the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic (KBR) complain about unresolved social issues, as well as unlawful methods used for investigation and fabrication of criminal cases. This was reported by members of the presidential delegation to the Human Rights Council (HRC) after their trip to the KBR.

According to Andrei Babushkin, a member of the HRC, during their visit to the KBR, the HRC delegation visited the temporary detention facility (IVS) in Nalchik, the pre-trial prison (SIZO), and the detention facility for administrative detainees.

"When we met citizens, we were contacted by about 40 people. A large number of complaints concerned unlawful methods of investigation and fabrication of criminal cases," the HRC member reports.

"We have received a very large number of evidences, when unlawful methods of influence were used against people. At the IVS, when we examined the primary inspection book, we found that 9 people were injured," the HRC member has stated.

According to the rights defender, the authorities of the region are advised to pay special attention to observation of human rights at the law enforcement bodies.
