NCDF Board is thinking of organizing mass protests in Azerbaijan

On June 4, a session of the National Council of Democratic Forces (NCDF) was held, at which they discussed the socio-political situation in the country, the socio-economic status of the population, the Karabakh conflict and the issue of releasing the political prisoners, as well as organizational issues.

The session re-elected Djamil Gasanli as the Chairman of the NCDF.

Djamil Gasanli told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that the NCDF intends to intensify efforts to address the problems faced by Azerbaijan.

"The existent plight status of the population has deteriorated further after the two last year's devaluations of the national currency. The situation is quite depressing in localities; and the economic crisis is a heavy burden on shoulders of ordinary citizens. The fall in oil prices has exposed the worthless government's policy," said Mr Gasanli, adding that the problem of politically motivated arrests remains a major problem.

"To date, out of 70 members of the NCDF, 18 are either in jail or in forced political emigration," said Djamil Gasanli. "During the session, proposals have been put forward to resume mass protests."
