Policemen from CTO zone in Kabardino-Balkaria complain to HRC members about absence of compensation
Today, former policemen from the Terek District, who worked at the border with counterterrorist operation (CTO) area during the two Chechen campaigns, have met members of the Human Rights Council (HRC) under the President of the Russian Federation. The policemen have appealed to the Commission with a complaint about the fact that they had been dismissed from the police without compensation for their overtime work.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on May 30, members of the Presidential Council for Civil Society and Human Rights arrived in the North-Caucasian Federal District (NCFD) and that they would stay in the region until June 9. On June 3 and 4, members the Commission for Civil and Military Relations of the HRC met citizens, soldiers, and their relatives in Vladikavkaz and Nalchik.
The members of the Commission were contacted by retired policemen from the Terek District, representing 83 their colleagues. For several years, they were engaged in a lawsuit against the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) of the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic (KBR) to oblige it to pay them compensation for the performance of duty on the border with the CTO area during the two Chechen campaigns. On July 29, 2015, the Supreme Court (SC) of the KBR dismissed their appeal filed against the decision of the Nalchik City Court. According to the SC, the policemen missed the time limit to file a complaint about the violation of their rights.
The former policemen are to receive compensation in accordance with the law, and in that regard, requests will be directed to the appropriate authorities. This was emphasized by Sergey Krivenko, a member of the Human Rights Council.
