Managers of Makhachkala Port persuade workers to end their strike

The team of the Makhachkala Commercial Seaport has resumed working after the rally and the related call voiced by the port managers. The workers protested against the appointment of a new port director. According to them, they resumed their work with the hope that the problem would be solved within a week.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that being disappointed with the appointment of Andrei Gormakh the port general director, the workers of the Makhachkala Commercial Seaport decided to suspend all activities on the seaports territory since May 30.

According to Makhach Aliev, the head of the trade union of port workers, for unknown reasons, the Federal Agency of Sea and River Transport ("Rosmorrechflot") "decided not to renew the contract" with Akhmad Gadjiev, who occupied the position of the general director since late 2010.

Port director Akhmad Gadjiev, has stated that a week ago he had reported to the "Rosmorrechflot" on his activities for the past five years and had been praised by his work.

"It is a complete surprise that the person who is not aware of the specifics of the port and features of the region has been announced the winners of the contest for the position," said Akhmad Gadjiev.

According to Gadjimet Safaraliev, a deputy of the State Duma, the port managers have called on the strikers to return to their work and to solve all the problems in the framework of the law.

"However, in case if the 'Rosmorrechflot' does not reverse its decision within a week, the strike will be continued," said a member of the trade union of port workers.
