Volgograd: activists protest against new rules of picketing

Today, in Volgograd, four persons have held a picket in support of Article 31 of the Russian Constitution and against the introduction of new rules of picketing in the region.

The protest action took place near the building of the Central Bank, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports. According to Vladimir Vasilchenko, the organizer of the action, the picket was sanctioned by the Mayor's Office.

According to the organizer of the protest action, the protesters "drew attention to the two topics of concern," including the difficulties with obtaining of social travel tickets and the introduction of the new rules of picketing in the region starting from July 1.

On May 26, at the session of the Regional State Duma, the deputies adopted the law clarifying the difference between a public event and a solo picket, reports an official of the Parliament.

"Unlike public events, it is not necessary to obtain the sanction for a solo picket from the local authorities. This regulation is now recorded in the legislation of the Volgograd Region," said the official of the Regional State Duma.

However, according to him, the regional law is "supplemented by provisions which have been earlier included in the federal legislation."

"In particular, it is determined that it is not necessary to submit a notification for a solo picket. The distance between solo picketers should be at least 20 meters," noted the official of the Parliament.
