AI calls on people to send to authorities letters in support of "Women of the Don"
The international human rights organization "Amnesty International" (AI) has organized an action of urgent assistance to Valentina Cherevatenko, the leader of the Union "Women of the Don", who faces criminal prosecution for failure to supply documents for inclusion of her NGO in the register of foreign agents. During the campaign, everyone can send a letter to the General Prosecutor's Office with the request to stop prosecuting Valentina Cherevatenko.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in May, Valentina Cherevatenko, the leader of the Union "Women of the Don" and of the Foundation for Civil Society Development "Women of the Don", was twice questioned by investigators in the course of the "pre-investigation check on the fact of intentional evasion of the duties defined by the law on foreign agents." Members of NGOs have treated the above as an attempt to continue the repression against the NGO and create a precedent for prosecution under the law on foreign agents.
On May 23, the AI declared an action of urgent assistance to Valentina Cherevatenko. The authors of the action have prepared an appeal to Yuri Chaika, Russian General Prosecutor, and everyone can print it out and send to the General Prosecutor's Office.
