Resident of Buynaksk convicted for attempting to join militants abroad

The Buynaksk City Court has sentenced Ali Takhnaev, a local resident, to 6 years in colony, finding him guilty of illegal arms dealing and possession of narcotic drugs. The Court has also held that Takhnaev had intended to participate in illegal armed formations (IAFs) abroad.

As established at the trial, in June 2015, Ali Takhnaev, born in 1983, tried to cross the Russian-Azeri border; however, he failed and was detained. Investigators believe that he tried to go abroad intending to take part in IAFs in the territory of a foreign state.

It was proved at the trial that Takhnaev illegally kept 24 cartridges of 5.45 mm calibre, a magazine to a Kalashnikov submachine gun, and 9.73 grams of marijuana.

The court has sentenced Takhnaev to 6 years in a general security colony with a subsequent restriction of freedom for one year, says the today's message posted by the website of the Dagestani Prosecutor's Office.
