Rally in memory of end of Caucasian War over in Istanbul (+video)
In Istanbul, activists have finished the rally held in front of the Consulate General of the Russian Federation, which was dedicated to the anniversary of the end of the Caucasian War. The rally was attended by members of the Caucasian Diasporas. The activists have demanded to recognize the events occurred 152 years ago as a crime against humanity. According to the organizers of the rally, at least 5000 people took part in the action.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in the evening of May 21, in Istanbul, Circassian activists organized a march of many thousands along Istiklal Street in direction of the Russian Consulate General. The action was organized by the Confederation of Circassian organizations and Caucasian Diaspora in Turkey, and the march was also joined by some Crimean Tatars.
The march involved Circassians, Adygs, Abkhazians, Vainakhs, Ossetians, and Crimean Tatars. In their hands, they were carrying the banners with the names of organizations and associations represented by their groups and national flags, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.
Besides, the activists were carrying in their hands the posters with slogans addressed to Russia and the international community and calling for recognition of the Circassian genocide and the cessation of repression of Circassian repatriates in Russia.
In the end of the action, people laid a mourning wreath with the inscription "The 152nd anniversary of the genocide of Circassians" to the walls of the Consulate General of Russia.
