Political analysts: Armenia to recognize Nagorno-Karabakh in case of failure of negotiations on its status

The Armenian Parliament has not included in the agenda of its extraordinary session the draft law "On Recognition of the ArtsakhRepublic". The fate of the draft law depends on the actions of Azerbaijan in solving the issue of the status of Nagorno-Karabakh. This was stated by political analysts interviewed by the "Caucasian Knot".

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on April 3, the initiative to introduce the draft law on recognition of independence of Nagorno-Karabakh was put forward by Grant Bagratyan, the former Prime Minister of Armenia and a deputy from the ANC Party. President Serzh Sargsyan has announced his intention to recognize the independence of Nagorno-Karabakh in case if the hostilities in the Karabakh conflict zone grow into a large-scale war.

The fate of the draft law "On Recognition of the ArtsakhRepublic" depends on the effectiveness of negotiations on settlement of the conflict and the Azerbaijan's abandonment from attempting to resolve the conflict by military means. This was told to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent by Boris Navasardyan, Chairman of the Yerevan Press Club.

According to him, Armenia seeks to consolidate the independence of Nagorno-Karabakh at the negotiating table.

"In this case, Armenia will not jump the gun and will not recognize unilaterally the independence of Nagorno-Karabakh, since it would be unhelpful and inappropriate," Boris Navasardyan has noted.
