Azerbaijani MFA: recognition of Nagorno-Karabakh may deprive Armenia of its right to negotiate

In case if Yerevan recognizes the independence of Nagorno-Karabakh, Armenia will lose its mandate to conduct negotiations within the framework of the OSCE Minsk Group. This was stated by Khikmet Gadjiev, the chief of the press service of the Azerbaijani Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA).

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Armenian MPs presented to the government a draft law "On recognition of the Republic of Artsakh". Its consideration is scheduled for May 5.

"The Armenia's recognition of the illegal regime established in the occupied territories of Azerbaijan will mean for Yerevan the completion of engagement in the negotiation process within the OSCE Minsk Group," Khikmet Gadjiev has stated.

According to him, "the international community should adequately respond to the provocative actions of Armenia."

Nureddin Mamedli, Deputy Chair of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA), believes that the Armenia's recognition of the independence of Nagorno-Karabakh "will put an end to the negotiation process."

On the other hand, Nureddin Mamedli notes, the international community will negatively perceive the actions of Armenia, since the UN supports the territorial integrity of its members.
