Prosecutor's Office starts studying video of incident with power agents in mosque

The video record, depicting the intrusion of drunken policemen into the Salafi mosque located in Hungarian Fighters Street in Makhachkala, which was handed over by the mosque staff to the Prosecutor's Office, has been registered and is under study, said a source from the Office.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that employees and visitors of the mosque assert that on April 10 a group of drunken policemen came to the mosque. They insulted and threatened the believers and forced them to the police station. On April 12, employees of the mosque filed an application demanding to bring the policemen to responsibility. On April 21, they handed over the video record of the incident made by surveillance cameras to the Prosecutor's Office.

The Prosecutor's Office of the Sovietskiy District of Makhachkala has started to study the video, an Office source has informed today the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent, without specifying the nature of the procedures carried out within this study.

The mosque has not received any response from the Prosecutor's Office yet, a source from the mosque told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

Let us remind you that the policemen's actions, should they be proved, may entail not only disciplinary, but also criminal liability, the "Caucasian Knot" was earlier told by Zelimkhan Arapiev, a member of the Moscow Bar Association. In his opinion, they may be classified as a violation of the right to freedom of conscience and religion (Article 148 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation).
