Nagorno-Karabakh: Mataghis villagers start returning to their houses

In the Martakert District, residents of the village of Mataghis, who left their houses during the escalation of the Karabakh conflict, have started returning to their places. This was reported by the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

Let us remind you that at night of April 2, the situation in the Karabakh conflict zone was escalated. The parties to the conflict were engaged in combat actions with the use of tanks, multiple launch rocket systems, and aircrafts, which resulted in a large number of victims. On April 5, the sides to the conflict declared a truce; however, they periodically accuse each other of violation of agreements on ceasefire.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that families of local residents were evacuated from a number of villages and towns, caught in the area of shelling.

On April 24, Zaven Avanesyan, the head of the Mataghis community, informed the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that almost all men returned to the village.

"We have launched reconstruction works. At night (of April 23), when a shelling occurred, those families left the village. However, they have come back today again. We do not know what we will do: whether we stay here or leave the village," said Zaven Avanesyan.
