Nagorno-Karabakh states desecration of casualties' bodies

The bodies of perished servicemen, handed over to Nagorno-Karabakh by the Azerbaijani party in the presence of representatives of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), had traces of torture and mockery, said the Minister of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR).

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on April 10 the parties to the Karabakh conflict exchanged the bodies of servicemen killed after the escalation of conflict on April 2. The bodies of seven soldiers were handed over to Azerbaijan; and 18 – to the NKR. The exchange took place with the mediation of the ICRC.

Desecration of bodies is a violation of the international humanitarian law, the MFA of the NKR has emphasized in its today's statement.

"The Karabakh party will seek to ensure that such behaviour of the Azerbaijani party has been subjected to the strictest condemnation by international community and specialized agencies, and the perpetrators have been duly punished," the statement concludes.
