Forensic experts unable to confirm torture of Karpyuk

The Supreme Court (SC) of Chechnya has questioned the experts who conducted medical examination of Nikolai Karpyuk. The experts have announced the impossibility to confirm whether Nikolai Karpyuk was subjected to torture with electric current.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the criminal case against Karpyuk and Klykh is being considered by the Supreme Court of the Chechen Republic starting from October 27, 2015. They are accused of involvement in the killing of at least 30 soldiers during the first Chechen war campaign.

Today, the Court has questioned forensic expert Islam Turshaev, who in December 2015 conducted medical examination of Nikolai Karpyuk, and his chief Maskhud Chumakov.

The Court has also examined the materials of the check carried out at the Klykh's complaint of torture. According to Marina Dubrovina, an advocate of defendant Klykh, the expert was asked the question concerning the nature of the formation of scars on her client's body; however, according to the advocate, the conclusions of the examination failed to present the answer to the above question.

The expert has noted that "it is not possible" to find the confirmation.
