Azerbaijani writer released after detention by border guards

This morning, at the Baku Airport, before the flight to Frankfurt, Akram Aylisli, an Azeri writer and the author of the novel "The Stone Dreams" about the Karabakh conflict, was detained by border guards, who handed him over to policemen. The Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) said that the cause of detention was the writer's creation a conflict situation at the airport.

There was no conflict situation with the participation of Akram Aylisli at the Baku Airport, Najaf Naibov, the writer's youngest son, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

"My father was told that his departure from the country is banned. He politely tried to find out the reason; but they explained nothing to him," said Najaf Naibov.

In its turn, the Civil Society Protection Committee (CSPC) has condemned the Akram Aylisli's detention at Baku Airport, treating the actions of the frontier service and police as "an attack on the citizens' freedom of movement."
