"Union of Syrian Armenians" to help resettled businessmen

A public organization has been established in Armenia, setting the aim of helping entrepreneurs who came from Syria.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in December 2015 Syrian Armenians complained about the legal obstacles to development of their businesses in Armenia. According to their stories, this development is hindered by high taxes and population's low living standards.

"Our work will be focused on ensuring appropriate conditions for Syrian Armenians in implementing their business projects," Nerses Gevo, the chairman of the "Union of Syrian Armenians", told reporters today in Yerevan.

According to his story, a number of governmental agencies will help them. "We've addressed state bodies, which liked the idea and promised to help us," he said.

As reported by Armenian authorities, by mid-October 2015, since the start of the armed conflict in Syria in 2011, over 16,000 Syrian Armenians had moved to Armenia, where they receive help from governmental structures and international charity organizations.
