Advocate again denied meeting with Mukhammad Magomedov

Today, members of the Public Oversight Commission (POC) managed to visit Mukhammad Magomedov, an activist of the NGO "Union of the Just", who is kept at Makhachkala SIZO (pre-trial prison), while his advocate has appealed against the ban on visiting his client.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Magomedov was detained on May 23, 2015. He is charged with illegal manufacture and possession of weapons. Initially, Magomedov was taken into custody, but in June 2015 his defence managed to achieve his release under house arrest. On February 25, at the request of the Federal Security Bureau (FSB), Magomedov was returned into custody.

"On Saturday, when I came to SIZO-1, where Mukhammad is kept, intending to see him, I was told Saturday is weekend; and no meetings are allowed; although I saw other advocates and civilians coming into and out of the SIZO. On the same day I wrote an application to the Republic's Public Prosecutor demanding to recognize the actions of the SIZO staff illegal," said the advocate.

"On February 29, I was again denied the meeting with Magomedov. This time, I was told that some operative actions were conducted with him; and therefore, they couldn't allow the meeting. Then I filed another complaint to the Republic's Prosecutor's Office with the same demand – to illegitimate the actions of the staff and oblige them to abide the law and admit me to Mukhammad Magomedov," said the advocate.
