Experts: future leader of Chechnya to be determined with appointment of acting head of republic

The voting at the election of the leader of Chechnya will be held simultaneously with the elections of deputies to the State Duma. This was reported by Ismail Baikhanov, Chairman of the Chechen Election Commission.

"In 2012, the Chechen Constitution was amended, and according to the amendments, the leader of the Chechen Republic shall be elected by citizens of Russia living in the territory of Chechnya. According to the Law 'On election of the leader of the Chechen Republic', the elections will be held on September 18," Ismail Baikhanov has reported.

In Russia, there were precedents, when the person appointed the acting head of the region lost the election. However, in Chechnya, such a scenario is unlikely to be implemented. This opinion was expressed by experts questioned by the "Caucasian Knot".

Political analyst Mikhail Vinogradov has noted that the Ramzan Kadyrov's term in office ends on April 5, in exactly five years from the date of his inauguration.

According to the procedure of elections, after April 5, the Russian President will issue a decree to appoint the acting head of the republic. However, Mikhail Vinogradov has added that it is still unknown whether it will be Ramzan Kadyrov.

The political analyst believes that after the election the acting head of the republic will continue to lead Chechnya.

"The question of power is being solved now, not in September," Mikhail Vinogradov has stated.

"If a person is appointed the acting head, he is given 'a shortcut to rule'," believes Vitaly Averin, the interregional coordinator of the movement "Voice" for the central regions of Russia.
