In Volgograd, pensioner Galina Akelieva stops her hunger strike

With the support of a local basketball club, Galina Akelieva, who was on a hunger strike in protest against the eviction of her family members, has managed to raise money for an apartment in Volgograd. The procedure of the deal is already underway.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on January 13, 61-year-old Galina Akelieva declared a hunger strike in protest against the eviction of her family members from the sanatorium of the Municipal Unitary Enterprise (MUE) "Metroelectrotrans" in the Voroshilov District of Volgograd. On February 1, it was reported that players of the "Red October" basketball club decided to raise money to purchase an apartment for Galina Akelieva. On February 3, the basketball players contacted Galina Akelieva with a request to stop the hunger strike and promised to purchase housing for her.

Galina Akelieva has told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that the basketball players have raised the amount of 1.4 million roubles and that she is to pay 350,000 roubles.

"The procedure of the deal to purchase an apartment due to the sponsor support of the basketball club is already underway, and today, I stop my hunger strike," Galina Akelieva has concluded.
