Flu epidemic threshold surpassed in two NCFD regions

In most republics of the North-Caucasian Federal District (NCFD), the epidemic threshold for influenza virus is not surpassed yet. So far, no quarantine measures have been introduced in Dagestan and Chechnya. No additional measures related to restriction of visiting patients at health facilities and quarantined schools and kindergartens have been introduced in Ingushetia, Kabardino-Balkaria and North Ossetia. However, the epidemic threshold has been surpassed in the Stavropol Territory and Karachay-Cherkessia.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that, according to preliminary data as of January 27, since January 1, 2016, 49 residents of the NCFD and the Southern Federal District (SFD) had died of flue complications. Most deaths had been registered in the Volgograd Region and Adygea – 12 and 11 deaths, respectively.

According to the Ministry of Public Health of Dagestan, during the last week, 4188 persons turned to doctors and were diagnosed SARS (severe acute respiratory syndrome). Tanka Ibragimov, the Minister, has stated that the epidemic threshold "is not exceeded; therefore, there is no need to announce quarantine."

The similar ministry of Chechnya also sees no need to introduce quarantine. A source thereof has noted that specialists observe a decrease in SARS incidence.

Meanwhile, residents of the republic are seriously concerned about a rapid increase in swine flu incidence.

Already in 2016, the Stavropol Territory, according to the local Ministry of Public Health, lost six residents, who died from swine flue complications; two other patients died there before the New Year.
