In Grozny, surveillance cameras installed in mosques

In Grozny, residents report on CCTV notifications in mosques. According to an official from the Grozny administration, surveillance cameras are installed in the mosques for security reasons.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the decision to install surveillance cameras in mosques was made at the meeting of the antiterrorist commission held in the Grozny Mayor's Office on October 25, 2013. On March 12, 2014, the Qadi of Grozny instructed the imams to control the appearance of mosque-goers.

Salavdi, a resident of Grozny, reports that he had seen a CCTV notification in a mosque. "When you are watched, you get a feeling far from pleasant. A believer goes to a mosque to address Allah with a prayer, and believers need no control from outside," the Grozny resident has said.

According to an official from the administration of the Chechen capital, the question of the installation of surveillance cameras in the city mosques was discussed two years ago, in October 2013.

One of the Chechen religious leaders has noted that the installation of surveillance cameras in mosques will improve safety. According to him, there were cases in the republic, when at nights, criminals entered mosques and stole money intended for the help to the needy.
