Attacks on law enforcers
On January 19, in Dagestan, in the vicinity of the village of Mamedkala of the Derbent District, two unidentified men opened fire on policemen who wanted to check their documents. As a result, one policeman was wounded, and he was brought to hospital in a condition of moderate severity. The attackers fled.
Special and counterterrorist operations
On January 21, the counterterrorist operation (CTO) legal regime was introduced in the Tabasaran District of Dagestan, and law enforcers started to search for militants. At 1:30 p.m. Moscow time of the same day, the operational headquarters made the decision to lift the CTO legal regime in the Tabasaran District. The CTO legal regime in the Suleiman-Stalsky District and some territories of the Khiv District was also lifted.
Detentions
On January 21, at the automobile checkpoint "Nizhny Zaramag", North Ossetian law enforcers detained two citizens, who intended to smuggle in the boot of their car a Kalashnikov submachine gun and 88 rounds of 7.62-mm calibre. Criminal cases were instituted on the facts of illegal acquisition and possession and smuggling of weapons. According to investigators, the detainees are active members of an organized criminal grouping and are involved in illicit trafficking in firearms.
