Armenia starts inquiry into conflict between policemen and activists
The Armenian police have reacted to the appeal of the Ombudsman Karen Andreasyan, who asked to clear out the legality of policemen's actions during the incident, in which Gevorg Safaryan, a member of the "Constituent Parliament" was detained.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on January 18 Armenian Ombudsman Karen Andreasyan, on the eve of his retirement, sent a letter to the head of Armenian Police Vladimir Gasparyan, asking him to check the policemen's actions during the incident on December 31, 2015, when Gevorg Safaryan, a member of the "Constituent Parliament", was detained.
The republic's police have answered the former Ombudsman's letter, a source from the press office of the Police told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
According to his story, the above answer reads, in particular, that the Service of In-House Security of the Police is conducting an internal investigation into the incident in Freedom Square.
"The results of the investigation will be announced later," said the source.
Let us note here that Safaryan's supporters stated abuse of power by policemen during the clash with activists on December 31, 2015.
