Reznik turns to GPO on Kadyrov's statements

An appeal of the Petersburg Deputy Maxim Reznik with a request to check Ramzan Kadyrov's statements about the non-systemic opposition for extremism has been sent to the Russian General Prosecutor's Office (GPO) and made public. Reznik has also proposed to restrict the access to the website of the Chechen administration.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on January 12 Ramzan Kadyrov said that the non-systemic opposition should be treated "as public enemies and traitors," who are trying to stagger the situation in Russia. Rights defenders have called the Kadyrov's utterances reckless and dangerous.

The above appeal to the Russian Public Prosecutor General Yuri Chaika has been posted today on Maxim Reznik's website. While citing Kadyrov, Reznik emphasizes two phrases of the head of Chechnya: "These people must be treated as public enemies and traitors," and "I believe that these people should be tried to the fullest extent for their subversive activities."

In the opinion of the Deputy, the statements contain elements of "public calls to extremist activities" and "incitement of social discord". The allegations of the Chechen leader are contrary to the provisions of the Russian Constitution, which proclaim the presumption of innocence, protection of basic political rights and freedoms of the person and citizen, as well as the inadmissibility of persecuting a person for one's political beliefs.

Since Kadyrov's words were posted on the website of the Chechen administration, the access thereto, according to Reznik, should be restricted.
