"New Armenia" demands from authorities to protect citizens' rights to life and health

Attacks on activists of the Front of National Salvation "New Armenia" show the authorities' inability to protect citizens' lives and health, says the today's statement released by the Front. "New Armenia" urged the authorities not to prevent citizens' self-defence, even with the use of weapons.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that activist Gevorg Safaryan was arrested after a conflict with the police in Freedom Square at the New Year's night. The activist was arrested by the court for two months. Suzi Gevorkyan was beaten in Yerevan on January 5. In the same evening, the activist filed a complaint to the police about the attack on her. She was diagnosed with brain concussion.

Threats addressed to activists of "New Armenia" remain unanswered; and because of that cases of violence have taken place, says the statement.

The authors of the statement also emphasize the protraction by law enforcement bodies of "due deadlines for accepting the applications on crimes against the activist Gevorg Safaryan and other citizens", and that "the policemen who had used violence against citizens not only escape justice, but are further encouraged by the authorities."

"We see continued harassments of activists by unidentified persons, who are trying to psychologically press supporters of the 'New Armenia' forcing them to refrain from fighting against the authorities. This means that the state is not only unable to protect lives and health of its citizens, but also takes part in encroachments through its officials," says the statement of the "New Armenia".
