Azerbaijani GPO issues warning to rights defender Gyulalyev
A critical publication on the pardoning decree of Azerbaijani Presidential was the reason of the warning made by the General Prosecutor's Office (GPO) of Azerbaijan to Ogtay Gyulalyev, the head of the Public Alliance "Azerbaijan without Political Prisoners" and a member of the National Council of Democratic Forces (NCDF).
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on December 28, 2015, President Ilham Aliev signed a decree to pardon 210 convicts. The list of those pardoned did not include the convicts recognized by rights defenders as political prisoners.
"Today, at 5:00 p.m., I was summoned to the GPO of Azerbaijan and was released after a two-hour stay there. The reason for the call was in my recent article 'Pardoning decree, not worth one child's tears," said Gyulalyev.
The rights defender was told that "some aspects of the article cause harm to business reputation of state bodies." "They made an official warning to me," said Oktay Gyulalyev.
