In Derbent, police take Naryn-Kala Fortress under heavy guard
In Derbent, the observation deck of Naryn-Kala Fortress, where people were shelled on December 30, is open to the public. The city authorities explain that the security was enhanced at Naryn-Kala due to the holidays.
The "Caucasian Knot" was the first edition, which reported on the armed attack on people in the area of Naryn-Kala Fortress at night of December 30. 12 people with gunshot wounds addressed the Derbent hospital for medical help. One of the wounded persons died.
Derbent is covered by snow, and it is unusual for the southern Dagestani city. Thus, local residents visit the observation deck of Naryn-Kala Fortress to admire Derbent covered by snow. This was told to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent by a city administration official on duty on January 2.
The official has noted that the observation deck is open to visitors and that policemen are always on duty at Naryn-Kala Fortress.
"At present, the police squads are reinforced. And it is not just because the tragedy, which occurred at night of December 30, when a group of young people was shelled. Such an enhancement of security always happens during the holidays," said the official, who refused to introduce himself.
He has also noticed that the people who came under fire were not tourists.
"They were young people who after a Darghin song concert visited the observation deck to admire the views of the city. There were 20 people. And of them, 12 got injuries of varying severity. One of the young people died. They were locals and not tourists," says the source of the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
