Some 15 activists of "New Armenia" spend night in Freedom Square

In Yerevan, the Front of National Salvation "New Armenia" continues the round-the-clock sitting picket. According to the information of the united headquarters, the protest action involves about 15 people.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that starting from December 1, Freedom Square hosts the round-the-clock sitting picket of supporters of the "New Armenia". On December 18, the opposition front held a rally in Freedom Square, which developed into a march in the centre of Yerevan.

There is a timetable of duty, according to which, every three hours, three men on duty at headquarters are replaced by their colleagues. This was told to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent by Sevak Manukyan, a staff member of the united headquarters of the opposition.

According to him, the activists are not going to stop their sitting picket.

The small number of activists involved in the protest action in Freedom Square is an indicator of the Armenian community's attitude towards the programme of the "New Armenia". This was told to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent by political analyst Ruben Megrabyan, an expert of the Armenian Centre for Political and International Studies.

Ruben Megrabyan believes that the Armenian population has got a high level of dissatisfaction; however, the public does not perceive the agenda, voiced by the opposition movement. According to the expert, the Armenian society is concerned over other issues, in particular, over the problems of social and economic nature.
