One person shot dead in shootout in Dagestan

In the Shamil District, in the course of a shootout, a suspected militant, who opened fire on the policemen, was killed, said a local law enforcement source.

According to his story, the man was killed near the village of Ratlub.

"Power agents were screening the area near the village of Ratlub when they were shelled from some abandoned house. The attacker was killed by return fire," the "Chernovik" quotes the source today.

"The casualty was pre-identified as Gadji Kelbeliev, a native of Dagestan, born in 1983, who was in hiding since March 2014. He was a member of the 'Izberbash' gang, and after its liquidation joined the so-called 'Yuzhdag' bandit grouping," the "Interfax" quotes its source from the Russian National Antiterrorist Committee (NAC).

According to the NAC, Kelbeliev "was involved in numerous terrorist crimes, including attempts on the life of law enforcers," the RIA "Novosti" adds.
