Union of KChR's NGOs and active citizens declare counteraction corruption among its objectives

In the Karachay-Cherkessian Republic (KChR), on the initiative of several non-governmental organizations, the Union of NGOs and active citizens has been created. The Union is positioning itself as an independent organization.

The meeting, at which it was decided to establish the union, was held on October 24 at the Centre for Entrepreneurship in Cherkessk. The association has no plans to get registered at the Ministry of Justice (MoJ), the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.

According to Zariyat Akabaeva, the head of the new union and the chair of the KChR's regional branch of the Inter-Regional public organization of the NCFD "Anti-Corruption Centre", the objectives of the union are fostering civic engagement in the field of anti-corruption, participation in the formation of public control over the observance of the laws of the Russian Federation in the activities of bodies of power and law enforcement bodies.

The Union of NGOs and active citizens of KChR was established to coordinate activities in order to protect rights of local people, said Aliy Pilyarov, the head of the regional branch of the public organization of small and medium businesses "Support of Russia" in the KChR.

Earlier, representatives of 20 NGOs declared, at the roundtable on settlement of North-Caucasian conflicts, held on December 12, 2014, in Cherkessk, that most NGOs exist only "on paper".
