Two KChR residents convicted for attempting to join IS

The Ust-Djeguta District Court of the Karachay-Cherkessian Republic (KChR) has sentenced Akhmat Seitov and Botash Botashov to 10 months in prison for their intention to go to Syria for joining the militants of the "Islamic State" (IS).

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Seitov and Botashov were accused of committing crimes under Part 1, Article 30, "Preparation for a crime and attempted crime" and Part 2, Article 208, "Organization of an illegal armed formation (IAF) or participation therein" of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.

As noted by Soltan Bayramukov, the press secretary of the Supreme Court of the KChR, the case was heard in the special order, that is, the defendants have fully admitted their guilt, the "Interfax" reports.

According to the indictment, the defendants were monitoring the political situation in Syria and the specificity of actions of IAFs there by viewing the information on the Internet. It was also established that the convicts had contacts with a native from Northern Caucasus, who is in Syria, the TV Channel "Arkhyz-24" reports.

Various sources, including the Russian FSB, have confirmed that militants from Russia are fighting for the "Islamic State", says the document prepared by the "Caucasian Knot": "Caucasians in the ranks of IS (ISIL)".
