AI calls on to acquit Darya Polyudova

The international human rights organization "Amnesty International" (AI) has launched a campaign in support of Krasnodar activist Darya Polyudova.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Darya Polyudova was one of the organizers of the action "March for federalization of Kuban", which failed in August 2014 and which was to be directed against the Russia's policy towards Ukraine. The activist is accused of public calls for separatism and extremism. Darya Polyudova is included in the list of political prisoners compiled by the Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial".

"In accordance with international law of human rights, no one should be imprisoned solely for the peaceful exercise of one's right to freedom of expression, peaceful assemblies and associations," states the AI.

The human rights organization has asked its activists with a call to send letters in support of Darya Polyudova to the Chief of the Regional FSB Department, the Prosecutor of the Krasnodar Territory, as well as to the Prosecutor of the Russian Federation. The campaign will last until December 26.

Let us remind you that at the court session held on December 7 in the Darya Polyudova's case, the pleadings took place. The public prosecutor demanded to sentence Darya Polyudova to 3.5 years of imprisonment in a penal settlement-colony.
