NAC states links of person killed in Nalchik with militants

The resident of Baksan, who was killed in a shootout with power agents in Nalchik, was raising money to finance the armed underground and was on the federal wanted list on suspicion of robbery, said the Russian National Antiterrorist Committee (NAC).

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on December 14, in Nalchik, two residents of Baksan were stopped for inspection; and one of them, according to investigators, opened fire on power agents and was killed in the shootout. The second man was detained.

Both men have been identified, the NAC reports.

"According to the Department for Kabardino-Balkaria of the Russian FSB, they were engaged in extorting money from entrepreneurs-residents of Nalchik and the Baksan District,” says the NAC’s website.

According to power agents, the raised money was used to finance the armed underground in Kabardino-Balkaria. The killed man "was on the federal wanted list for robbery," the NAC adds.
