Activists of "New Armenia" set up paper tents in Yerevan

According to organizers, over 400 people gathered for a rally of the Front of National Salvation "New Armenia" in Freedom Square in Yerevan.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on December 8 supporters of "New Armenia" tried to set up a tent in Freedom Square, but the police confiscated it. A skirmish broke out between power agents and activists; after which the police pulled additional forces to the square. They detained two activists, who were released after a few hours, after drawing up an administrative protocol. In the evening on December 8, policemen and activists clashed again; and on December 10, policemen detained three activists of "New Armenia" at the attempt to set up a tent in the square. The detainees were released after an administrative protocol against them was drawn up.

Today, activists of "New Armenia" have brought more than 50 makeshift tents made of A4 paper lists with the inscription "Tent" and placed them throughout the square.

"Our mini-tents mean that the decision of the city authorities and the minister of culture to reject our initiative to set up tents in the square is illegal," one of the protesters told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
