Ramzan Kadyrov reports on about 500 Chechens joining IS
During the existence of the "Islamic State" (IS), about 500 natives of Chechnya had joined militants of that terrorist organization. 50 of them were persuaded to return home. This was reported by Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov. During four months, the number of natives of Chechnya, who, according to officials, joined the IS, grew by nearly 100 people.
"We know that 484 of our compatriots left (to join the IS), and more than 200 of them were killed there," Ramzan Kadyrov reported during the TV show "Postscript" on the "TV Centre" TV Channel on November 22.
According to the Chechen leader, many of those people, who have left home, are trying to return, and those people, who have returned, "live in the republic and help the secret services."
"We have returned home about 50 people, who really comprehended and repented their actions... And we will destroy the others who have stayed there. They do not represent my religion, and they are not Muslims. They are to be destroyed," the "Interfax" quotes Ramzan Kadyrov as stating.
As of mid-September 2015, about 2400 immigrants from Russia were fighting in the ranks of the "Islamic State" (IS), the "Rossiyskaya Gazeta" reports with reference to Army General Sergey Smirnov, First Deputy Director of the Russian FSB.
On October 10, Vladimir Putin reported that according to various estimates, 5000-7000 immigrants from Russia and CIS countries are fighting in the IS units, the "RBC" reports.
