Mother of Talekh Khasmamedov appeals to Azerbaijani President to pardon her son
The mother of human rights defender Talekh Khasmamedov has sent a written appeal to the President of Azerbaijan with a request to pardon her son because of his family and his health state. The woman believes that her son is innocent and that he is "arrested by order of officials."
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on February 24, Talekh Khasmamedov, the leader of the organization "Law and Order", was detained in the city of Goychay on suspicion of beating a local resident, who was also detained by the police. The human rights defender was charged with disorderly conduct. To protest against the prosecution, the human rights defender went on hunger strike and cut his veins. On July 22, the Goychay Court found Talekh Khasmamedov guilty of disorderly conduct and sentenced him to three years of imprisonment.
On November 21, Gyulbuta Khasmamedova, the mother of the human rights defender, sent the written appeal to the President of Azerbaijan with a request to pardon her son.
"Talekh faces serious health problems. The medical examination has confirmed that he suffers from the deceases threatening his life. In case if he is not under the supervision of physicians and does not receive qualified medical treatment, we can lose him physically. Mr. President, being his mother, I ask you to take into account the diseases, from which my son suffers, the fact that he cares of his two minor daughters, the difficult situation, which our family faces, and to pardon him," writes Gyulbuta Khasmamedova in her appeal.
