Resident of Maikop sentenced for attempt to join IS

In Maikop, the court has sentenced Murat Shovgenov, a local resident, to one year and 10 months of imprisonment on the charge of planning to take part in terrorist activities in the territory of Syria.

According to the case materials, in the period from May to August 2015, Murat Shovgenov was preparing to join the "Islamic State" (IS), recognized as a terrorist organization, and he was trying to enter Syria to fulfil his intention.

Investigators have revealed that on May 6, Murat Shovgenov flew from Moscow to Istanbul. In Turkey, he spent several months to find people, who could assist him in crossing the border and entering Syria. He was detained on his way to the Syrian Arab Republic. On August 5, the man was expelled from Turkey, and on August 9, he was taken into custody in Adygea.

The young man has admitted his guilt and actively cooperated with the investigatorsю
