Over 70 residents of Astrakhan Region fight in ranks of IS
More than 70 residents of the Astrakhan Region stay in Syria, being involved in illegal armed formations (IAFs) of the "Islamic State" (IS). This was reported by a source from the law enforcement bodies.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that at the conference held in Sochi on November 10-12, Russian General Prosecutor Yuri Chaika has reported that Russia investigates 650 criminal cases on the involvement of Russian citizens in armed formations abroad and on recruitment of mercenaries and organization of their transportation abroad.
According to a source from the law enforcement bodies of the Astrakhan Region, in general, socially vulnerable persons without any permanent sources of income leave for Syria from the Astrakhan Region.
As an example, the source has recalled how in October, agents of the secret services twice got off the flight a former student of the Astrakhan Medical University, who tried to fly to Turkey. The 22-year-old young man was expelled from the therapeutic faculty for failure to pay for his studies.
Alexander Stetsenko, the chief federal inspector for the Astrakhan Region, has also confirmed the fact that the Astrakhan Region faces a risk of deterioration of the situation.
Meanwhile, according to Alexander Stetsenko, at present, in the Astrakhan Region, the situation in the sphere of interethnic and inter-religious peace is relatively stable, the "Astrakhanpost.ru" reports.
