MoJ starts checking NGOs in Chechnya
The Department for Chechnya of the Russian Ministry of Justice (MoJ) intends to inspect more than 800 NGOs which are included in the register of public organizations. Those NGOs, which are not active, will be closed, an official from the MoJ has noted.
The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent has been informed by a staff member from the Chechen MoJ that at present, according to the preliminary information, no more than 250 NGOs are actually active.
According to an official from the department for relations with religious and public organizations of the administration of the Chechen leader and the Chechen government, during a long time, more than half of Chechen NGOs did not represent any reports on their activities to the supervisory bodies.
The official has emphasized that the decision to close each particular NGO will be made only after a detailed inspection.
"We are required to present a complete package of documents and to provide financial reports. Besides, we are warned that in case of violation of the NGO's Charter, the materials on the closure of our NGO will be sent to the court," reported a member of an NGO.
Let us remind you that on August 21, the Human Rights Centre (HRC) of the Chechen Republic was included in the register of "foreign agents".
