Karaulova's defence challenges her arrest
A complaint against the court judgement to place Alexandra Ivanova (Varvara Karaulova), a student of the Moscow State University, suspected of trying to join the "Islamic State" (IS), in custody was submitted today to the court.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on June 4 Varvara Karaulova and resident of Chechnya Muslim Akhmaev were detained at the Turkish-Syrian border within a group of 14 Russian citizens who, according to investigators, had intended to join the IS. After the incident received a broad public resonance, Karaulova changed her name and surname and became Alexandra Ivanova. On October 28, Moscow Lefortovo District court arrested her.
In its complaint against the judgement, the defence asks to release the girl out of the isolation facility on bail, or place her under house arrest.
Earlier, a source familiar with the situation reported that Karaulova admitted her guilt during her interrogations. However, while the girl remains in the status of a suspect, her advocate Alexei Noskov refuses to comment on the information, the "Interfax" reports.
