Chechen Prosecutor's Office sends Umar Akhtaev's case to court
Umar Akhtaev, a resident of Chechnya, is to face trial on charge of undermining a grenade inside a police car.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on March 26, at the entrance to the village of Martan-Chu, Umar Akhtaev, with an improvised explosive device in his pocket, stopped a Lada Priora car with staff members of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) for the Urus-Martan District, who were in civilian clothes. They agreed to take him closer to the centre of the village. The Akhtaev's behaviour seemed suspicious to the policemen, and they decided to check his documents and showed their police ID cards. Then, Umar Akhtaev took out a homemade grenade from his pocket, brought it into the action position and threw it into the front part of the car between the driver and passenger seats. As a result of the explosion, two policemen were seriously injured.
The criminal case investigated under Article 317 (attempt on the life of a law enforcer), Part 1 of Article 222.1 (illegal purchase, possession and carrying of explosive device), and Part 2 of Article 167 (intentional damage to property) of the Criminal Code was sent to the Supreme Court of Chechnya, the website of the Chechen Prosecutor's Office reports today.
Earlier, according to a prosecutor, Umar Akhtaev has confessed that he was carrying a homemade grenade to destroy it in the vicinity of the village of Martan-Chu.
