In Dagestan, residents of Kumli protest against detention of their fellow villager

Residents of the village of Kumli of the Nogai District of Dagestan have held a rally with the demand to stop the criminal proceedings against local resident Ruslan Nasyrov, who was detained by law enforcers.

The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was informed by local residents that the protest action was attended by about 150 people. According to the villagers, on September 13, Ruslan Nasyrov won the elections of deputies to the rural assembly and planned to run for the post of head of Kumli village. However, local officials had different plans.

"The law enforcement agencies started receiving complaints against him. The local residents support Ruslan Nasyrov, since they know that he is not a Wahhabi or a Salafi. The man simply performs prayers," said Rustam Aliev, a resident of the village.

The man has also reported that in the morning of October 9, staff members of the Centre for Combating Extremism of the Kizlyar District visited the Ruslan Nasyrov's house and searched it. Then, they detained Ruslan Nasyrov and took him away with them to the Kizlyar ROVD (District Interior Division).

In protest, the participants of the action have announced their refusal to take their children to the kindergarten until their demands are fulfilled.
