Accidents on Sochi Grand Prix track can be caused by problems with track, experts report
An agent of the owner of the team "Toro Rosso", which driver has been involved in the today's accident, criticizes the safety system on the Sochi Autodrom track. According to Advisor to the President of the Russian Automobile Federation, diesel fuel was spilled on the track prior to the accident, and that fact could affect the safety of the races.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that from on October 8-11, the Sochi Autodrom hosts the second Russian stage in the history of the Formula One races. Today, during a training run, Carlos Sainz Jr, a Spanish Formula One racing driver, has lost control and hit a bumpstop. The driver got no injuries; however, his team "Toro Rosso" cannot permit him to take part in the tomorrow's race for safety reasons.
The Sochi Autodrom has a problem concerning the safety system of the track. This has been declared today by Red Bull motorsport adviser Helmut Marko, who owns the team "Toro Rosso". According to him, the above problem has caused the accident involving Carlos Sainz Jr.
"As far as I've seen an incident, the car should not slide in this place," the "TASS" quotes Helmut Marko as stating.
During the accident involving Carlos Sainz Jr, the very safety system has reacted correctly. This was stated by Igor Ermilin, Advisor to the President of the Russian Automobile Federation for Formula One. However, on October 9, diesel fuel was spilled on the track. While trying to remove diesel spill, personnel used water and no special means, and that fact could cause the accident, the "R-Sport" quotes Igor Ermilin as reporting.
