Pamfilova speaks in favour of Savchenko’s transfer to Ukraine

The transfer of the Ukrainian pilot Nadezhda Savchenko to Ukraine will be "a humane and reasonable decision", Ella Pamfilova, the Russian Ombudsperson, said today.

Ukrainian aviator Nadezhda Savchenko is charged with involvement in the killing of two staff members of the All-Russia State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company (known as VGTRK) near Lugansk and illegal border crossing. The defendant pleads not guilty. Starting from September 22, the case is considered on the merits at the Donetsk City Court of the Rostov Region.

The Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial" has included Nadezhda Savchenko in the list of persons recognized as political prisoners.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that today Alexander Konovalov, the Russian Minister of Justice, has admitted the discussion of Savchenko’s transfer to Ukraine after her sentencing by a Russian court. He said that Savchenko may be delivered for serving her punishment in the territory of Ukraine.

Ella Pamfilova welcomed the prospects of delivering of Nadezhda Savchenko for serving her term in Ukraine, in case she is convicted.

"If, indeed, such a possibility is considered, then, regardless of the sentence, it would be reasonable and appropriate, and, most importantly, humane," the "Interfax" quotes the Russian Ombudsperson as saying.

Thus, in accordance with the agreements on the transfer of convicts, there should be the consents of three parties: the transferring and the receiving ones, and of the convict herself, the RIA "Novosti" notes.
