Court rules to re-examine Vitishko’s clemency
The complaint lodged by the defence of the Krasnodar ecologist Evgeny Vitishko against the refusal of the Kirsanov District Court of July 31 to replace the remaining term in colony for restriction of freedom has been satisfied by the Tambov Regional Court.
The issue of Vitishko’s clemency to be considered again by the first instance court, the Tambov Regional Court has ruled.
Today, this court has also quashed the first instance’s judgment of 15 April to reject Vitishko’s amnesty, the “Caucasian Knot” correspondent reports.
Let us remind you that Evgeny Vitishko, an activist of the "Ecological Watch on for Northern Caucasus" (EcoWatch), is serving his sentence under the case of damaging, in 2011, the fence around the territory, known as the "dacha" of Alexander Tkachov, who was then the Governor of the Krasnodar Territory. Violations of Vitishko’s rights by administration of the colony, where he is being kept, were stated by his colleagues from the "EcoWatch" and rights defenders. On October 1, Russian President Vladimir Putin promised that these reports would be checked by the General Prosecutor's Office.
