Rostov Regional Court upholds decision on Nadezhda Savchenko's arrest
The Rostov Regional Court has upheld the decision of the court of first instance to extend the arrest of Nadezhda Savchenko, a staff member of the Ukrainian armed forces, accused of the killing of Russian journalists, until January 16, 2016.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on September 15, the Donetsk City Court of the Rostov Region granted the motion filed by the Prosecutor's Office and left Nadezhda Savchenko in custody for six months. The defence has appealed against the Court's decision.
Ukrainian aviator Nadezhda Savchenko is charged with involvement in the killing of two staff members of the All-Russia State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company (known as VGTRK) near Lugansk and illegal border crossing. The Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial" has included Nadezhda Savchenko in the list of persons recognized as political prisoners. The defendant pleads not guilty. Starting from September 22, the case is considered on the merits at the Donetsk City Court of the Rostov Region.
"Being a superior court, the Rostov Regional Court has upheld the decision of the Donetsk City Court to extend the arrest of Nadezhda Savchenko," the "TASS" quotes today an official of the Court as stating.
